Introduction
Pakistan is situated between the
latitudes of 24 and 37 north and longitudes of 61 to 75 east . Stretching over
1600km from north to south and 885km from east to west, with a total area of
796095 square kilometres. It has a subtropical and semi arid climate. The
annual rainfall ranges from 125mm in the extreme southern plains to 500 to
900mm in the sub mountainous and northern plains.
About 70% of the total rainfall
occurs as heavy downpours in summer from July to September, Originating from
the summer monsoons and 30% in winter summers except in the mountainous areas,
are very hot with a maximum temperature of more than 40C, while the minimum
temperature in winter is a few degrees above the freezing point.
Pakistan is
basically an Agriculture country. Agriculture sector plays a critical role in
Pakistan's economy through a variety of channels. Almost 20 percent of the national
income and 43 percent of the total employment are generated in this very
sector. For instance, quite a portion of the country's manufactured exports are
dependent on raw materials such as cotton and hides that are part of the
agriculture sector, while supply shortages and market disruptions in farm
products do push up inflationary pressures.
Crop:
Crop is a non-animal species or
variety that is grown to be harvested as food, livestock fodder, fuel or for
any other economic purpose. The term "crop" most commonly refers to
plants , it can also include species from other biological kingdoms.
